Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPA)

An 'EPA' is a document which enables you to choose whom you would want to manage your financial affairs if you were to become mentally incapable, for example due to a stroke, dementia or accident. The alternative would be to allow the decision to be made by the Court of Protection, an expensive and time-consuming exercise during which the Court could appoint someone who would not be of your own choosing. An EPA is a low cost document to have drawn up and it makes sense to do this well ahead of any problem with mental capacity arising.
