AFFINITY WILLS SUPPORTING ZERO FIRE DEATHS CAMPAIGN

Director of Affinity Wills Limited, Mr Dan Attfield was one of a number of community minded business people in the Brentwood area who attended a meeting held by the Essex Fire Service at the Hartswood Hospital this week. Mr Dan Attfield said: "Affinity wills Limited is pleased to support the Zero Fire Deaths campaign being run by the Brentwood and Thurrock Division of the Essex Fire Service.

Station Officer Steve Reynolds of the Essex Fire Service, gave an overview of the aims of the campaign currently running to achieve "Zero Fire Deaths".

"The Deputy Prime Minister, Mr John Prescott, has recently focused on the need for a community fire service and the Thurrock and Brentwood Division of the Essex Fire Service are targeting the vulnerable in the local communities.

"With approximately 600 deaths per year in house fires alone the need to educate the public and install smoke alarms in homes is an increasing necessity.

"Most smoke alarms require some installation and regular maintenance but thanks to the donations made by local businesses the Fire Angels Fire Alarm can be purchased and easily installed by our own officers and being connected directly to the mains electricity supply, there is virtually no need for any maintenance.

County Councillor Lionel Lee, former Chairman of Essex Crime Prevention, said: "I am proud and honoured to have been made Chairman of the Essex Fire Authority and to formerly accept donations for the Zero Fire Deaths Campaign. These contributions made by Affinity Wills, Bennetts Funeral Parlour, Proctor and Gamble and many other businesses in and around the Brentwood area will purchase hundreds of these life saving devices and facilitate their installation in the homes of the vulnerable and the education of the public to raise awareness.
